Question 1 of 12 · Warm

How important is winning to you?

Very important
Nice but not essential
Not at all
Depends on the game

Sample question

After answering questions like this, you'll see matches like this:

Top match

Marcus the Fox
89%
match

You and Marcus are likely to enjoy each other's company. You both want games where the table actually talks to each other, you both think winning is nice but not the whole point, and you both said "fairness" was a value that matters to you at the table. Different enough to be interesting — Marcus likes brain-burners and you like party games — but that's how good gaming groups work.

About your data

AFG uses Claude (made by Anthropic) to read your free-text answers and help match you with compatible players. Your answers are never used to train AI models. We don't sell your data. We don't share it with anyone outside your matches. You can delete your profile at any time and we mean it — when you tap delete, your data is actually gone from our database, not just hidden.

Dungeon Masters

A Friendly Game matches DMs with compatible parties. Build your profile and we’ll connect you with the table that fits your style of play.

How it works:

We start with a few questions about your personal approach to running games. Then we ask you to take our full compatibility questionnaire so we can curate the match to parties of players whose style, values, and personality are compatible with yours.

Rafe reviews every DM profile personally and reaches out when the right group comes along.

To the people who make the games

A Friendly Game is a compatibility matching tool that connects players to:

  • A. other players, and
  • B. games they’ll love

Here’s what we think we can offer game creators so you can find your best audience:

  1. A matched audience for your game. We already build detailed gamer profiles, and we already use those profiles to recommend the right games to the right players. We can do the same for your games — and include them in the curated menu we offer each matched player.
  2. The profile of who responded to your work. After a player chooses your game, we can share with you the profile of that player — what they value, how they play, what they were looking for. Not their data. Their pattern.
  3. Events built around your players. We can collaborate with you to create gatherings — at venues, at conventions, online — that bring your ideal players together around your game.

But — here’s what we don’t know yet:

Tell us what you’d want a compatibility matching tool to do for game creators. We’re interested in your work, your audience, and what’s hardest about reaching them. We’re listening.

If any of this resonates, drop your email and we’ll be in touch. We’re at the listening stage; we won’t spam you, and Rafe or Alice (the DM and the social worker who co-created this app) will reply personally.

Question 1 of 17

A questionnaire about your game

We’re building a way for AFG to surface indie games to players whose profiles suggest they are a likely fit — a “designer’s-corner” pick, alongside the three game suggestions we already offer. Our suggestions differ based on the games available at a user’s self-identified location: a game café, an event, or online.

This questionnaire aims to learn enough about your game to do a good job of matching it with an appreciative audience. AFG uses research-backed matching tools to assess values, interests, gaming style, and personality. We surface a game when a player’s profile fits, and not when it doesn’t.

This is a draft. You’re one of the first designers to see it. The questions we ask, and how we ask them, will shape how AFG matches indie games for years. If a question doesn’t fit your game, or if you’d phrase it differently, or if there’s something we should have asked and didn’t — tell us. There’s a feedback prompt at the end.

It takes about ten minutes. Most questions are checkboxes. A few are freestyle. Your progress is saved as you move through the questions, so a tap on Back doesn’t lose your work.

Before you start: AFG has a short content policy describing what we will and won’t accept. Worth a one-minute glance.

Thanks. We review everything personally.

You’ll hear from us within a week.

What happens next

  • We read your submission and your feedback. Both matter.
  • Most submissions go straight into the matching engine after a quick review. If we have questions, we’ll email you. If your game isn’t a fit for AFG (we have a short content policy), we’ll let you know.
  • Once you’re in the engine, AFG will surface your game to players whose profiles fit. We’ll send you a digest of player reactions every few weeks — curated, not raw, so you’re not getting drive-by takes.

If you met us at Geekway and you’d be willing to be on a short list of designers we check in with as the questionnaire evolves, drop us a note — we’d love to keep the conversation going.

Content policy

What we won’t accept

  • Content that harasses or discriminates. Games whose theme, mechanics, or marketing target groups for derision based on gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, ethnicity, race, age, national origin, or disability.
  • Hate speech, glorification of violence against people, or extremist symbols and ideologies. A game can have dark themes; that is not the same as endorsing harm against real groups.
  • Intellectual property violations. Unauthorized fan-games of licensed properties (movie, TV, video game, novel, music IP, etc.) without rightsholder permission. If you’re using someone else’s IP, you need their license; we’re not the venue to launder around that.
  • Fraudulent or misleading submissions. Games that don’t exist as described, Kickstarters with no realistic path to delivery, false claims about awards or reviews, or submissions designed to game our matching engine rather than reach players honestly.
  • Sexual or pornographic content. Adult-themed content with mature subject matter is fine when it’s flagged correctly (see below). Games whose primary purpose is sexual content are not what AFG surfaces.

Adult content — flagging required

If your game is intended for adult audiences (mature themes, graphic violence in service of the story, sexual content as part of an adult game design), tell us in the questionnaire. AFG honors player preferences about adult content and only surfaces flagged games to players who haven’t opted out. Misflagging — submitting an adult-themed game without telling us, or claiming family-friendly status when your game isn’t — is a content policy violation.

AFG’s discretion

AFG is small and we are the curators. Beyond the categorical lines above, we reserve the right to decline submissions when our judgment says a game isn’t the right fit for our matching layer or our community. We’ll always tell you why if we decline. If you think we got it wrong, you can write back; we’ll read it and reconsider.

Appeals and questions

Use our Talk to Me form. Two humans will read it.

This policy will evolve as AFG learns from real submissions. We’ll publish meaningful changes here.

Who We Are

A Friendly Game ("AFG," "we," "us") is a compatibility matching platform that helps board game players find compatible gaming partners and lasting friendships. We are based in the United States.

What We Collect

We collect the following information when you use AFG:

Your name and callsign — the first name and animal you choose during registration (e.g., "Amy the Owl"). We never ask for your full legal name.

Your questionnaire answers — gaming preferences, personality questions, values, and interests you share during the matching process.

Contact information — your email address, if you choose to provide it through our Talk to Me form or during registration.

Session data — your browser stores your session locally so you can return to where you left off.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used for one purpose: matching you with compatible gaming partners. Specifically:

Your questionnaire answers are compared with other users' answers using our compatibility algorithm to generate match scores.

Your name and animal callsign are shown to your matches so they can find you at events.

Your email is used only to contact you about your matches or to respond to messages you send us. It is never shown to other users.

Your individual questionnaire answers are never shown to other users. Only your callsign, match percentage, and general compatibility highlights (like "shared values" or "thinks alike") are visible.

What We Never Do

We never sell your data to anyone.

We never share your data with advertisers.

We never use your data for advertising or marketing purposes.

We never display ads in AFG.

We never share your individual answers with other users or third parties.

Where Your Data Lives

Your data is stored in a Supabase cloud database. Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Your browser also stores a local session copy so you can resume where you left off.

If you contact us through our Talk to Me form, your message is also processed by Web3Forms to deliver the email notification to us.

Sensitive Information

Some questions in our deeper tiers touch on faith, political outlook, LGBTQ+ identity, and gender preferences. These answers are treated with extra care:

They are entirely optional — you can skip the gateway questions entirely.

They are used only for compatibility scoring, never displayed to anyone.

They are deleted along with all your other data if you choose to delete your account.

Your Rights

Delete your data: You can delete all your data at any time using the "Delete My Data" link found at the bottom of every screen. This permanently removes your record from our database and clears your local session.

Access your data: Contact us through Talk to Me to request a copy of your stored data.

Correct your data: You can update your answers at any time by returning to the questionnaire through your profile.

Children

AFG is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

Terms of Use

Last updated: February 8, 2026

Welcome

By using A Friendly Game ("AFG"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. We want this to be straightforward, so we've kept the legalese to a minimum.

What AFG Is

AFG is a compatibility matching tool for board game players. We use psychology-backed questionnaires to suggest people you might enjoy gaming with. We are not a dating service, a social network, or a guarantee of friendship.

Your Account

Your identity on AFG is your callsign (name + animal). You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide. Please use your real first name so your matches can find you at events.

You may only create one profile. If you need to start over, use the "Delete My Data" link first.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Provide false information to manipulate matches

Use AFG to harass, stalk, or harm other users

Scrape, copy, or extract data from AFG's database

Attempt to reverse-engineer the matching algorithm

Use AFG for any commercial purpose without our permission

Impersonate another person

Our Rights

All content, design, code, algorithms, and branding of A Friendly Game are the intellectual property of A Friendly Game and its creators. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from AFG without written permission.

We reserve the right to remove any user's data, modify the service, or discontinue AFG at any time.

No Guarantees

AFG is provided "as is." We do our best to create meaningful matches based on research-validated compatibility science, but we cannot guarantee:

That any match will result in a positive experience

That the service will be available at all times

That match scores perfectly predict real-world compatibility

You use AFG at your own discretion and assume responsibility for your interactions with other users.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, A Friendly Game and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to negative experiences with matched users.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of AFG after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
